Four wheel driving has long been a popular way to explore the natural beauty of North Stradbroke Island.

To ensure Stradbroke stays as beautiful as it is now, the Redland Shire Council has introduced 4WD beach permits. All revenue raised from these permits is used for the revegetation of the island's sand dunes, maintenance of bush tracks and the general protection of beaches.

4WD annual permits are available from Sea Stradbroke - the ferry departure point. When booking your holiday with Stradbroke Getaways, please ask for a 4WD permit to be included in your package.

As of 1 July 2010, only annual permits are issued and allowed by Redland Shire Council. The cost for a permit is as follows:

The rules of the road apply to all beaches on Stradbroke
Enter and leave the beaches at designated beach access points only
Slow down when passing people on the beach
Use formed tracks only and never make new tracks
Reverse back along the track by which you enter, rather than turn on the dune
It is strictly prohibited to enter mine sites land where indicated and roads that are clearly marked closed to 4WDs
